Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions before you set off? Here you'll find answers about bookings, groups, experience duration, accessibility, and much more.

The Experience

How long does the experience last?

Normally between 2 to 3 hours. Even so, we give you up to 4 hours to complete everything at your leisure. There are no prizes for finishing first here 😄 The idea is for you to enjoy the challenge, explore Funchal, and even enter the buildings and spaces we recommend along the way.

Where does the experience begin?

We recommend starting next to Jardim Almirante Reis, in Funchal.

Does the route end in the same place?

It ends practically in the same place, next to the opposite side of the garden.

Is a mobile phone required?

NOOO! And that's one of our favourite parts of Madeira Quest. We want you to enjoy time with family and friends without distractions, using "old-fashioned" maps, exploring the streets and even getting lost along the way, just like in the old days.

Is there in-game support?

Of course! Zarco doesn't have WhatsApp... but the crew does. Just scan the QR Code in the logbook and we'll help with whatever you need.

Is the route difficult?

No. It's a circular, accessible route designed to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace.

What languages can I play in?

Currently, the experience is available in Portuguese and English. We are also working on adding more languages in the future.

Is it possible to play solo?

Yes, although we recommend playing in a group. Still, solo travellers are always welcome.

What's included in the kit?

Each kit includes: a logbook, map, backpack, box with 9 padlocks, challenge materials, notepad, pencil, spare pencil, and even a sharpener.

Are the padlocks real?

They are very real. Each one has a 4-digit code that you need to discover to advance. And no, the codes never repeat, almost all of them are directly related to the story or the corresponding challenge.

Is the route always the same?

Yes. You can choose the order in which you explore some parts, but we recommend following the intended route for the best possible experience.

Do I have to return the kit?

Yes, please. This way, other travellers can experience the exact same adventure you just had.

Bookings

Is online booking mandatory?

Yes. Even if you decide to book on the spot, with our crew in Funchal, the reservation is always made through the website to ensure a simpler and safer process for everyone.

Do you accept reservations at the moment?

We accept, provided there are vacancies available at the desired time.

Is the payment online?

Yes, payment is made online at the time of booking.

Do you accept MBWay?

Not directly yet, but we're working on it 👀 Even so, you can easily pay with MBWay using a virtual card.

Do I receive a booking confirmation?

Yes. After payment, you will receive an email with all the information about your experience.

How many minutes of grace are there?

We allow a grace period of up to 15 minutes. After that, we cannot guarantee the activity will take place.

Groups & Ages

Is there a minimum or maximum number of participants?

In fact, there is no mandatory minimum or maximum number 😄 You can play with 2 people… or 48. You can book directly through the website regardless of the number of participants. We believe 6 people is the ideal number for everyone to actively participate in the challenges. For larger groups, we recommend dividing into teams to make the experience more fun and dynamic.

Do large groups split into teams?

Yes, and honestly, it even gets more fun 👀 Especially in groups of friends, companies, or birthdays, a little healthy competition often arises between teams.

If I book for 8, 10, or more people, do I receive multiple kits?

No. Reservations made directly through the website only guarantee one kit per reservation.

For groups of more than 6 participants, we recommend contacting us before making a reservation so that we can organise the experience in the best way possible and ensure that everyone actively participates in the challenges.

Can I have multiple teams playing at the same time?

Yes. Depending on the availability of kits and desired times, we can organise several teams simultaneously. We recommend that you contact us in advance so we can find the best solution for your group.

Do you do team building events?

Yes. For large groups, we adapt the dynamics of the experience to ensure that everyone actively participates. Our goal is not for someone to "fall behind the group." We really want everyone to be part of the adventure.

Do you do experiments for schools?

Yes. We accept school groups with students aged 10 and over. For safety reasons and to ensure the best experience, adult supervision is mandatory, with at least one supervisor required for each group of students.

Do children pay?

Up to 10 years old, they are free of charge. From 11 to 17 years old, they have a reduced fare.

Can minors play alone?

No. The experience takes place across the city of Funchal, and we always require the presence of at least one responsible adult per group.

Is there a recommended minimum age?

We recommend it for ages 5 and up. The route is around 3km and, even if the little ones don't solve all the challenges, they can perfectly well be part of the adventure.

Accessibility

Is the experience suitable for seniors?

Yes 😄 The route is mostly flat, with no stairs, and designed to be accessible to as many people as possible.

Is it suitable for strollers?

It is possible, although some moments may be more challenging.

Is it pet-friendly?

Are there stairs or sloped areas?

Is it a long walk?

The recommended route is around 3 km.

Does the experience happen in the rain?

If it's light and intermittent rain, normally yes.

What if the weather's really bad?

In the event of unsafe conditions, we will contact you to reschedule or cancel the activity.

Cancellations

Until when can I cancel or reschedule?

Up to 2 hours before the reservation.

Is there a refund?

Yes, according to the Terms and Conditions.

What if I'm late?

Significant delays may result in the loss of your reservation.

What should I wear?

Is the route outdoors?

Are there restrooms along the way?

Extra

Do you take photos of the participants?

Is there competition or a ranking?
